you’ve got to jump cliffs all the time…
Posted in thoughts on October 1st, 2007i’m sitting in the roses & hello studio…we’re starting to mix the city breathing record and it’s starting to sound great and everything is just a brilliant, warm burst of beautiful ideas…both this record and everything that’s happening with roses…being a teacher, i often find myself telling my students to be more confident and to trust their instincts…much of this is because i just want them to try and to understand that more often than not their instincts and penchants are more correct than they think…but outside of a mathematical context i want them to explore their ideas and convictions in a world that is increasingly resilient of people thinking outside the box and pushing boundaries…i find this particularly dangerous for my students whose ebullient and wonderfully innovative ways of looking at the world need to be embraced and published for the world to see in all forms…it would be disastrous for the world if their voices weren’t heard…
“If we listened to our intellect, we’d never have a love affair. We’d never have a friendship. We’d never go into business, because we’d be cynical. Well, that’s nonsense. You’ve got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down.” – Ray Bradbury
