guardians of a rare thing…

tiffany and taylor got married in pultneyville, ny this weekend…they are two of the most wonderful and earnest people i’ve had the pleasure of calling my friends and i’m very happy for them both…the middle of last week resembled a mild train-wreck and a weekend out in the middle of nowhere was pretty much what i needed…puja and i took in a lacrosse game on friday…i’ve always been a big fan of lacrosse and have watched it several times in television over the course of the last decade or so, but had yet to see a game in all of its live glory…we attended the event with about 100 other locals and watched the rochester rattlers destroy the long island lizards…though, i must say, the lizards hung in for a good three-quarters of the game before having a meltdown in the final period…

yesterday, we went to the george eastman house…a museum, garden and mansion that we managed to meander through sans payment…the film and photography exhibits were all fairly interesting, particularly one that took stock of the oil profiteering currently going on in the niger delta…a practice which has destroyed much of the original culture in the region as well as the rich fishing resources that previously fed the population in the area…two oil spills a day is no small matter…it’s amazing how little we know about what’s going on everywhere else…

the mansion and the garden themselves were both extravagant and beautiful…puja picked a handful of blackberries which apparently are actually red…or at least they turned her fingers red after she started eating them…i tasted one but found it unsuitable for my taste buds…i officially do not like black berries…still, walking around the garden was more than pleasant and the mansion appeared wondrous on the inside, but we were forced to make an early exit by a purported employee of the establishment…i took a number of photographs while were there and you can view the worthwhile ones on my flickr photostream

now i’m back in brooklyn and stitching together various parts of my life that i’d left sitting around…also, the mountain goats’ “riches and wonders” is a terrific little number…john darnielle at his best…a clutter of tape hiss and and crunchy acoustic guitar accompanied by voice and delicate lyrics…

peace etc.
